This small territory (originally: Heung Gong – "fragrant harbour") is part of China and has a lot more than one would imagine: besides the countless skyscrapers here are amazing geological formations, waterfalls, unique plants and animals, ancient fortified villages, petroglyphs…

The most amazing sight though is the center of this metropolis around Victoria Harbour. No other city in the world has such an amazing array of thousands of highrise buildings with the backdrop of sea and forest-covered mountains. Colorful lights (the light show takes place every evening) make this sight unforgettable and without analogs in the world.

Po Pin Chau

Large cliff with exposed hexagonal basaltic columns.

Kwun Yam Shan

“Hot pots”, where volcanically heated air is exhaled. When the air at the summit is cold, the steam is visible and is called by locals “dragon’s breath”.

Lo Ah Tsai Stone Circles

Two overlapping stone circles from 28 upright stones.

Fan Lau Stone Circle

Stone circle, most likely made in the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age for unknown purposes.

Architecture wonders

Bank of China Tower

One of the world’s most imposing skyscrapers, a 315 m tall building with 72 floors, built in 1990. The building is characterized by sharp edges and for local architects, it is controversial due to its non-compliance with feng shui rules.

Stonecutters Bridge

The second longest cable-stayed bridge in the world in 2009, when it was built. The bridge is 1,596 m long, and the longest span is 1,018 m. Two towers of the bridge are 298 m tall.

International Commerce Centre

The tallest building in Hong Kong, the eighth tallest building in the world. The building has 118 floors and is 484 m tall, built in 2010.

Kat Hing Wai

The historical walled village of Punti people from the 15th century, walls were built in the 17th century. Many of its inhabitants belong to the original builders – Tang Clan, e.g. represent a single family. The village is 100 by 90 m large.

Wai Loi Tsuen

One of the best-preserved walled villages in Hong Kong. The village was built around 1584 and up to this day, there have been preserved fortification walls and moats that were built in 1646 – 1647.

Yuk Hui Temple

This old temple was constructed in 1783. This Taoist temple contains important relics, such as a legendary, 800 years old iron sword.

Tsing Ma Bridge

One of the largest suspension bridges in the world, a suspension bridge with a span of 1,377 m. The road carries six lanes of road traffic, a railway line, and two more emergency access lines.

Ting Kau Bridge

One of the largest cable-stayed bridges in the world, built in 1998. It has the longest cable stays in the world – 465 m long. The bridge is 1,177 m long.

Tin Hau Temple at Joss House Bay

An old temple, constructed in 1266. This is the oldest temple in Hong Kong devoted to Tin Hau – the Chinese goddess of the sea.

Highcliff and The Summit

Two very tall and very thin skyscrapers are located close together. Highcliff (the most slender skyscraper in the world) is 252 m tall and has 75 floors, The Summit is 220 m tall, with 65 floors.

Tian Tan Buddha

An enormous statue of Buddha, 34 m tall. Constructed in 1993 and was the tallest seated Buddha statue in the world until 2000.

Mang Gui Kiu

Reportedly, a haunted bridge. In 1955 there perished a group of children and their teachers. Since then there repeatedly have taken place unusual events such as local children seeming to be playing with some invisible kids.

Tsang Tai Uk

The historical walled village of Hakka people, Tsang Clan. The construction of walls started in 1847 and lasted for some 20 years. Most of the historical buildings have been preserved.
