Unique finds of gemstones

Every kind of gemstones is rare but some are unique or nearly unique. There are hundreds of kinds of gemstones – separate minerals and their varieties. Some gemstones have been found only in a few examples, such as musgravite (rumors about 8 cut gems of this stone), taaffeite (some 50 gem-quality pieces), painite (some thousands are known to exist) or poudretteite. But there are some gemstones or varieties of gemstones which are found exclusively in a single location. Or a few locations.

One of such gems is the elusive blue amber. Most of these stones are found in Palo Quemado mine (Dominican Republic), but there are some more finds of these amazing gems around the world.

Another example of exclusive finds is benitoite. In gem quality, it is found only in California, although this mineral is known in several more places.

There are more places of unique gemstone finds – such as the finds of best lazurite, clinohumite, ametrine, pezzottaite, bixbite, and many others.

In fact – Wondermondo could fill this list of 40 unique natural places only with gemstone finds. Not this time, not yet…
