Mount Belinda
One of the few active volcanoes under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom. This volcano rises 1,370 m above sea level. The summit of the volcano rises from a glacier that covers almost the whole island. The eruption in 2002 – 2009 created a 90 m wide, subglacial river from the molten ice, which reached the sea, creating a steam plume. MODIS imagery around 2004 indicated that it is possible that in the crater of the volcano is a persistent lava lake. Most likely now it does not exist as the crater is covered with a thick layer of snow.
Mawson Peak of Big Ben
An active volcano, last eruption took place in 2008, but there have been many more eruptions over the last decades, mostly fixed only by satellites from space. The tallest part – Mawson Peak – is the highest mountain in the territory of Australia (2,745 m). Satellite data shows that there might be located lava lake with a diameter of 100 – 150 m.
Mount Michael
An active volcano on this small, glacier-covered island. Its 0.7 km wide crater contains one of the few active lava lakes in the world. The size of the lava lake fluctuates between 90 – 215 m. The volcano is 990 m tall and, as far as it is known, none has climbed the mountain.
Mount Erebus – the southernmost active volcano
One of the few constant glowing lava lakes in the world. Here are found large anorthoclase crystals in the center of the caldera of the volcano.
Lake Bonney – lake in Antarctica with laughing gas
Frozen lake with unique geochemistry. The east lobe of the lake is saturated with nitrous oxide – "laughing gas" and dimethylsulfoxide. Another part of lake is rich with dimethylsulfide – possibly produced by microorganisms.

One of the largest icefalls on Earth – 920 m wide and 400 m tall.

Giant, approximately 5 km wide and 400 m tall icefall.
Blood Falls, Antarctica
Unusual natural feature – an outflow of hypersaline water, seeping through the ice, tainted with iron oxides in blood color. This approximately 15 m tall fall provides insight into a unique ecosystem that has been isolated from the outside world for 1.5 million years.
