Peppara Forest and Kallanas
A population of suspected dwarf elephants reportedly lives in this forest. Here lives the common Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) but local people are convinced that considerably smaller elephants – Kallanas – hide from the common elephants further up in the mountains. Maximum height of Kallanas is 1.5 m.

Good example of the unusual “kodakkal” megaliths or umbrella stones – mushroom-like dolmens.

Cave with prehistoric (around 8,000 BC) pictorial writings.
Edakkal Caves
Cave with unusual archaeological monument: 6 – 8 thousand years old petroglyphs that resemble ancient writing.
Palayoor Church of St. Thomas
Local community believes that Palayoor Church is the oldest church in India or even in the world. According to a legend it was built by St. Thomas in 54 AD.
