Large swamp, last refuge of uncontacted pygmy people with very short legs, most likely extinct by now.

Benbow Crater with lava lake

A spectacular, very deep hole with vertical walls where for the most time is observed a lava lake. Acid rain formed by the gases from craters has burned approximately 100 km² large plain in the jungle of Vanuatu. Here live specially adapted organisms – insects, orchids.

Bisi Falls (Wasi falls)

Impressive, beautiful waterfall, some 100 m tall and 90 m wide. Main falls are supplemented by some 200 m wide group of spring waterfalls from the cliff face in the canyon.

Mount Bosavi Crater

Forested volcano (some 4 km wide and 1 km deep) that is isolated from other highlands of Papua New Guinea. Here in the montane forest live numerous species of plants and animals that are not met anywhere else in the world, including the 82 cm long Bosavi Wooly Rat and fish that emits grunting noise.

Banyan in Lomteuheakal

Many historical villages of Tanna island have giant banyan trees that are located in the center of local culture – dancing place (nasara). The diameter of such trees reportedly reaches 50 m. The tree in Lomteuheakal has an approximate trunk circumference of 26 m. Banyan of Yakel village has a house built on top – this house is used for the circumcision of local boys. Kaluas is considered by locals to be the largest banyan tree in the world. The tree is huge but, unfortunately, no data about its size was found.

Savusavu Hot Springs

Hot springs located at the seaside, some springs are seen only at low tide. The temperature of springs – up to 90° C. In earlier times these springs were used by locals to boil their food. In the 1870ies for two months these springs turned into geysers, up to 12 – 18 m high.
