Le Bone de Leproserie

A magnificent sinkhole that starts with some 50 m deep well and then continues with a 40 m deep lake. The entrance is only 25 m wide but the lake at its base is 160 m wide. Contains 350,000 m³ of freshwater.

Impressive, 40 m deep sinkhole with a lake at its bottom. The roots of banyan trees are hanging down the cliff and reach the water.

Kakamora Caves – mystery of the dwarf people

Legendary, inaccessible caves, where, according to locals, live Kakamora people – ancient dwarf people, just one meter tall, walking naked and endowed with incredible strength. Many believe that these people still exist.

Nusa Roviana hillfort and shrines

Nusa Roviana shrine, Solomon Islands

Impressive settlement complex – 600 m long hillfort with 3 m high, 2 m wide, and 500 m long wall made of stone rubble. Here are located 13 skull shrines filled with skulls of deceased chiefs. A small terraced area in the highest place of the island contains a legendary shrine – Tiola or dog shrine with a stone carving – dog’s head. The fortress was destroyed in 1892.

The last remnant (5 km²) of the unique Norfolk Island rainforest, protected by a national park. Here grow many unique endemic plants including the tallest tree fern of the world (Cyathea brownii, up to 20 m tall), Norfolk island palm (Rhopalostylis baueri), endemic orchid, and last natural stands of Norfolk pine (Araucaria heterophylla). Here lives also endemic Norfolk Parakeet (Cyanoramphus cookii), Norfolk Gerygone (Gerygone modesta), slender-billed White-eye (Zosterops tenuirostris), endemic land snails and others – in total some 50 endemic species of animals and plants.
