Gwion Gwion art along Gibb River Road
Excellent samples of Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) style – sophisticated silhouettes of humans and other beings, often mythical ones. At least 17,000 years old. Multiple sites that are available upon agreement with local people.
Billimina
Impressive, giant cliff face that is covered with more than 2,500 cliff drawings. An interesting feature is drawings of many bars in horizontal rows – most likely this was counting. In the shelter at the cliff people lived over the last 22,000 years.
Wallaman Falls
The highest permanent waterfall in Australia, with 268 meters high single drop. Total height with minor drops – 340 meters.
Kiama Blowhole
One of the most popular blowholes – a location where sea waves through the passage in the cliffs create water spray that is up to 25 meters (reportedly even 60 m) high. One of the highest blowholes in the world.
Jenolan Caves
Possibly the oldest caves in the world – it is determined that the clay sediments of the caves are approximately 340 million years old. 10 caves opened for tourism. Length of passages exceed 40 km and there are more than 300 entrances.
Eaglehawk Neck tesselated pavement
Extreme, visually impressive example of tesselated pavement that looks like an exact pavement of large bricks.
King River Prison Tree
Enormous boab (Adansonia gregorii) that has been used as a prison. Tree has a circumference of 11.62 m, it is 14 m tall.
The Boab Prison Tree, Derby
An unusual boab (Adansonia gregorii), circumference 14.64 m, height just 9.5 m. It was used to lock up indigenous Australians in the 1860s on their way to sentencing.
Rullah Longatyle (Strong Girl)
The largest eucalypt and largest Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus Labill.) in the world. Volume 368 m3. Height 82.3 m, diameter 5.54 m (circumference around 19 m). After the fire in January 2019 it has collapsed.
