Old Cahokia Courthouse

Old Cahokia Courthouse

The oldest existing European structure in Illinois. This wooden building was constructed by the French-Canadians and has served as a courthouse and also – as a house. The house has been almost totally rebuilt and little of the original structure remains.

Fort de Chartres

Partly reconstructed historical fortress. Initially, it was built by the French in 1720 on the bank of the Mississippi River. Fort served as the administrative center. It was rebuilt in the 1750ies. The stone magazine (1750ies) is considered to be one of the oldest stone buildings in Illinois.

An enormous fountain that shoots up to 192 m tall. It forms an ensemble with the Gateway Arch across the Mississippi River, in St. Louis, Missouri. The fountain started to operate in 1995 and erupts for 10 minutes every day during the summer if the wind is not too strong. One of the tallest fountains in the world.
