Puako petroglyphs
An area with more than 30 000 petroglyphs. This could be the largest collection of petroglyphs in the Pacific region. Numerous signs hint at a preliminary development of a local writing system.
Honokohau petroglyphs
Comparatively recent petroglyphs, one even shows a full-rigged ship.
Petroglyph Point
Large sandstone outcropping covered with one of the largest displays of native American art in North America, with more than 5,000 carvings. This site is sacred to local Modoc people.
Little Petroglyph Canyon
Canyon with more than 20,000 petroglyphs, created by Coso people.
Chumash Painted Cave
Small sandstone cave with red, white and black paintings that depict the cosmology of Chumash people. Age is unknown, between 200 and 1000 years.
Blythe Intaglios
Large geoglyphs (gigantic figures on flat surface). The largest geoglyph is 52 m long depiction of a human. In this area are located several dozen such figures and also a labyrinth – Topock Maze. Age is unknown.
Petroglyph Beach
Some 40 different signs and symbols have been hewn in the boulders and rock outcrops at the sea. It is possible that these symbols are even 8000 years old.
Brahmagiri megaliths
180 metres high granite outcrop with numerous megalithic structures. Settled at least since the 2nd millenium BC. Ancient cemetery with 300 stone cists, painted pottery. Stones with later inscriptions – Ashokan edicts.
Thovarimala Ezhuthupara
Cave with prehistoric (around 8,000 BC) pictorial writings.
