Haji Ali Dargah
Legendary Islamic mosque and tomb (dargah). This intricate, gorgeous structure was built in 1431. Located on a small island.
Qutb Minar Complex
Group of valuable historical buildings in Delhi, mainly from the 11th – 14th centuries. Includes Qutb Minar – the highest brick minaret in the world, ornate, massive 72.5 meters high building. A unique monument is the Iron pillar of Delhi – 7 meters high and more than 6 tons heavy pillar of 98% pure iron, not corroding since its production in the 4th century AD (or as early as in the 9th century BC).
Jama Masjid in Delhi
Largest and best known mosque in India, built in 1656. Its façade is adorned with red sandstone and white marble.
Charminar
Impressive, ornate mosque and monument, built in 1591.
Shrine of Ali, Mazar-i-Sharif (Blue Mosque)
Gorgeous mosque with turquoise-colored domes, one of the most venerated shrines in Afghanistan. The first mosque was destroyed by Genghis Khan around 1220 and the current building was built in the 15th century. Constructed above the purported grave of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Nevertheless, some consider that here is buried Zoroaster.
Kalta Minor, Khiva
Massive, unfinished minaret at Mohammed Amin Khan Madrassah (1852 – 1855). Symbol of Khiva. The tower is glazed with tiles forming intricate patterns. The minaret is 29 m tall, although initially it was planned to be 70 m tall. Construction works were interrupted in 1855 and have not been restarted since then.
Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque
One of the largest mosques, built in 1958, this Islamic site is renowned due to its impressive and elegant design.
Bobo Dioulasso Grand Mosque
Large mosque in Sudano-Sahelian style, built in 1882 (1883?).
Agadez Mosque
Large clay building, originally constructed in 1515 and restored in 1844. Mosque has a 27 m tall minaret – the tallest adobe structure in the world.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Abu Dhabi
The eighth-largest mosque in the world, constructed in 2007 as one of the most beautiful religious structures in the modern world. The building has 82 domes rising up to 85 m high. Tallest minaret is 107 m high. White color dominates the design, very impressive is the floral design of the marble courtyard.
