Pateshwar Temple
Pateshwar has at least 8 ancient cave temples and numerous stone carvings, including more than 1000 Shivalings.
Bahrot Caves
The only Zoroastrian cave temple in India. It was established in 1351 AD when Parsi were hiding here from the Muslim invasion. The holy fire still is burning here.
Seokguram cave temple
This rock-cut temple is located near Bulguksa and contains some of the best Buddhist sculptures in the world. Temple was made in 742 – 774. Especially impressive is the 3.5 m tall statue of Buddha.
Perfume Temple (Perfume Pagoda)
Group of rock-cut temples. One of the most important and beautiful Buddhist pilgrimage sites in country, it was developed in harmony with the picturesque landscape of the region. The first temple was built here in the 1400ies. Its main attractions are the enormous Huong Tich Cave with Chua Trong (Perfume Temple) and the Thien Tru Pagoda.
Dharmaraja Mandapa, Mahabalipuram
Dharmaraja Manapa is simple but elegant rock-cut temple in the southern part of Mahabalipuram. This Hindu shrine was built in the late 7th century AD.
Antakya Church of Saint Peter (cave church)
One of the oldest churches in the world, constructed the latest in the 3rd or 4th century AD. Rock-hewn buildings, with fine facade built by Crusaders sometimes around 1100 AD. Rock-cut passages extend from the church.
Pancha Rathas, Mahabalipuram
A rare example of rock cut monolithic buildings – five ornate shrines and three sculptures of animals. Created in the late 7th century AD.
Masroor Rock Cut Temples (Masrur Temples)
A group of 15 ornate structures made from live stone in the second half of the 8th century in the shape of steep-sided pyramids.
Adivaraha Cave Temple
This rock-cut temple contains beautiful sculptures representing some of the highest achievements of South Indian art. Constructed around 630 – 668 AD.
