Le Bone de Leproserie

A magnificent sinkhole that starts with some 50 m deep well and then continues with a 40 m deep lake. The entrance is only 25 m wide but the lake at its base is 160 m wide. Contains 350,000 m³ of freshwater.

Trou de Bone

Impressive, 40 m deep sinkhole with a lake at its bottom. The roots of banyan trees are hanging down the cliff and reach the water.

Cherokee Sink

Cherokee Sink, Florida

A rounded jade green pool, 90 by 50 m large, surrounded by 0.5 – 9 m high cliffs. It has steep sides under the water as well and is up to 24.4 m deep. The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the cave chamber and most likely was considerably deeper in the past.

Up to 240 m deep and 180 m wide sinkhole with vertical walls, formed over underground river.

Mainina Ponor

In this ponor disappears water from the largest freshwater lake of Timor-Leste – the whole Irasiquero River flows in it. Water continues to flow underground and discharges into the sea. Sacred place. Endemic fish Craterocephalus laisapi has been discovered in this short stream.

One of the major sights in Niue: a beautiful cave with three huge natural arches. After entering the cave, there are two exits – one towards the sea with one enormous natural arch visible (approximately 7 m high and 20 – 25 m wide), another – to a sinkhole with two other large natural arches. From the sinkhole are available some more caves. Sinkholes and arches have been formed by the collapse of the cave roofs. First seen by Captain Cook.
