Murud-Janjira Fort
A very impressive marine fort on an island with 19 intact bastions. originally built in the 15th century, fortified afterward.
Lohagad Fort
Amazing hill fortress, with a part of it built on narrow cliff summit. The impressive access to the fortress is called Vinchukata. Developed since the Middle Ages.
Daulatabad Fort
One of the best-fortified forts – a conical, 200 m tall hill. Lower slopes of the hill have been cut away, leaving 50 m tall, nearly vertical walls around the whole hill. Contains rock-cut Buddhist cave temples.
Rohtasgarh Fort
Ancient, enormous fort built on a steepsided plateau. Fortification could be up to 1000 years old and is one of the largest forts in the world, enclosing an area of 42 square kilometres.
Red Fort in Delhi
Enormous fort, built in the 17th century. Contains important monuments of architecture.
Qila Mubarak
The most ancient fortification in India. It is at least 1900 years old and contains elements even from the Harappa period.
Mehrangarh Fort
One of the most impressive forts in India, towering above the city on 122 metres high hill. Includes several palaces. Construction started in 1459.
Golconda Fort
Ancient fortified capital of Golkonda in 1364 – 1512, world-renowned center of diamond trade. Four forts with 10 km long outer wall.
Chittorgarh
Ancient fortifications with 13 km long walls enclose an area 280 ha in size. Structures have been built in dramatic natural settings with tall cliffs. Constructed in the 7th century AD.
Taehungsan Fortress
Enormous castle – fortress with some 10 km of stone walls, built several millennia ago. A major part of the walls has collapsed and is in ruins.
