Songgwangsa
One of the main Buddhist temples in Korea. Initially, it was founded in 867 and later reestablished in the 1190ies. The site includes a residential building from the 15th century – one of the oldest in Korea.
Haeinsa
An important temple complex, it was first built in 802 AD. Since 1398 it has held an entire set of Buddhist Scriptures – the Tripitaka Koreana written on 81,258 wooden blocks.
Tongdosa
This is the largest Buddhist temple complex in Korea, established in 646 AD. Today it consists of 65 buildings. The temple candle has been burning without interruption for the last 1300 years.
Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Funchal
Ornate church in Mannerist and Portuguese Baroque styles, built by Jesuits in 1629 – 1647, fully completed in the middle of the 18th century. The interior of the church is ornate, even sumptuous.
Capela do Corpo Santo
This beautiful chapel was built in the 15th – 16th century. The main value is the exquisite interior, especially the numerous paintings on the ceiling.
Cathedral of Funchal
One of the oldest structures in Madeira, built in Gothic style in the 1490ies – 1518.
Santa María del Agua de Landa
The last of the five gorgeous Franciscan missions in Sierra Gorda, built in 1760 – 1768. Church has elaborate, sumptuous façade that has been made by very skilled artisans.
San Francisco del Valle de Tilaco
The best preserved of the five Franciscan missions in Sierra Gorda, built in 1744 – 1762. Church has a sumptuous façade influenced by the Baroque style and at the same time representing the indigenous art.
Nuestra Señora de la Luz de Tancoyol
The most elaborate of the five gorgeous Franciscan missions of Sierra Gorda, built in 1760 – 1766. The ornate façade of the church symbolises the mercy.
Santiago Mission in Jalpan
The first completed Franciscan mission in Sierra Gorda, built in 1751 – 1758. The gorgeous church has opulent façade that includes the elements of Baroque and local architecture and art.
