Riga Cathedral
The largest medieval church in the Baltic states. It was constructed in 1211 and extended in later times. The current Baroque tower was constructed in 1775.
Zerelia Lakes
Two small lakes – Great Zerelia and Small Zerelia. According to geological research, both could be created by meteorite impact some 12 000 – 8 000 years ago.
Monastery of Saint Anthony
A Coptic monastery and the oldest continuously operating Christian monastery in the world. Saint Antony started to live in a small cave there around 311 AD and some decades later his disciples joined.
Riga Saint Peter’s Church
One of the symbols of Riga is a large brick Gothic church with an unusually tall spire in Baroque style, constructed in 1209 – 1746.
Aqaba Church
Remnants of the oldest known purpose-built church. Its construction was started between 293 and 303 AD.
Aglona Basilica and monastery
The most important pilgrimage church in Latvia. This basilica was constructed in 1768 – 1780 together with a monastery.
Megiddo church
Remnants of one of the oldest known church (rather – a prayer hall) buildings. It was built in the 3rd century AD and there is found a fine mosaic floor with Greek inscription mentioning Jesus Christ.
Baháʼí House of Worship in Wilmette
Gorgeous structure – the oldest of the existing Baháʼí temples. The enormous, round, white temple was built in 1912 – 1953.
St. Stanislaus Kostka Church
A beautiful church in the so called “Polish Cathedral” style – a localised variation of Neo-Renaissance style. This ornate building was constructed in 1881.
St. Mary of the Angels in Chicago
Large, ornate building in the Polish Cathedral style. The church was constructed in 1914-1920 in Neo-Renaissance style, inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
