Melakkoil – Kudumiyanmalai Cave Temple

A rock-cut Jain temple from the 7th century AD. Temple contains some of the best medieval rock paintings in India.

160 km long ring-wall enclosing ancient land of Sungbo. Built sometimes around 1000 AD by local culture.

Buddhist temple of Aragada Hill

A small, double-storied Buddhist temple from the 9th – 10th century AD. More Buddhist monuments in surroundings.

Jogighopa Cave Temples

In Jogighopa are found the only medieval rock-cut architecture in Assam – five small chambers, made for Buddhist meditation in the 7th – 10th c AD.

Gorakhgad Caves

Ankai-Tankai Caves

A group of 10 – 11 rock-cut Jain and Hindu temples. These temples were made in the 10th – 13th century AD and some have exquisite stone carvings.

Catatumbo Lightning

In the marshy delta of Catatumbo River, during 140 – 160 days and nights (10 hours mainly in the afternoons) a year there is almost continuous powerful lightning. This location is the world’s most powerful generator of tropospheric ozone.

Calcoene megalithic observatory – Amazon Stonehenge

Pre-Columbian structure – a circle marked with 127 blocks of granite, stones are up to 3 meters high. Possible ancient observatory. Area contains numerous interesting megaliths.

Voltzberg

Granite dome, one of the most easternmost inselbergs of Guayana Shield. Rises 150 m above the surroundings, comparatively easy to climb, although a climb in this enormous cliff still is dangerous. Summit covered with the sparse “muri-muri” vegetation, slopes are bare.
