Bajo Nuevo Bank (Petrel Islands) and Serranilla Bank

Main attractions

Bajo Nuevo Bank (Petrel Islands) and Serranilla Bank are administered by Colombia but are claimed by Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua and the United States as well.

Both locations are mostly submerged corall atolls, each with some small islets. There is built a lighthouse on Low Cay (Bajo Nuevo Bank) and Beacon Cay (Serranilla Bank). Some trees grow on the islets of Serranilla Bank, many shipwrecks are nearby.

Most likely there are endemic species of sea organisms in these remote atolls, but this area has been little researched.
