The largest concentration of early modern architecture in the world. A residential district where some 25 properties have been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. More than 80 properties here have been designed in the Prairie School style – the first indigenous architectural style of the United States.

Unity Temple in Oak Park

Unity Temple in Oak Park

This church is considered to be the first modern building in the world, with immense influence on the development of architecture in the 20th century. It was built from reinforced concrete in 1908 and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This is the Unitarian Universalist church in the congregation that was attended by Wright.

Dana Thomas House

This family house was built in 1904 in the Prairie School style. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The building is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic, searching the harmony between the interior of the building and its surroundings. The interior with its furniture, windows, door panels is one of the best-preserved of all buildings of Wright.

Coonley House

This residential estate was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed in 1912. This complex of buildings is a fine example of Prairie School – a style in architecture.

Riverside Historic District

Riverside Historic District

One of the first planned communities in the United States. Its development started in 1869 and had an aim to develop a possibly pleasant suburban neighborhood. It has winding streets, many green areas, and looks like a park with numerous posh family houses. The centerpiece of this district is a water tower.

A private house that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed in 1906. One of the best examples of Prairie School – American style in architecture. As it is characteristic of this style, the furniture and many interior details also were designed by the same architect to keep the style.

Robie House

The most prominent example of Prairie School – American style of architecture. This family house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed in 1909. The interior of the building has the characteristic muted colors of the style.

Merchandise Mart

Merchandise Mart in Chicago

A giant department store that was built in 1930 in Art Deco style. It was the largest building in the world at this time. The massive building is 104 m tall and has 25 floors. The length of its corridors is some 10 kilometers.

860–880 Lake Shore Drive Apartments

860–880 Lake Shore Drive Apartments

One of the earliest examples of International Style in architecture. These two highrise buildings were designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and constructed in 1949 – 1951. Their design was considered to be extreme – the whole façade consists of glass divided by girds of steel. This highly influential design has been repeated all over the world up to this day. Both buildings are 82 m high and have 26 floors.
