Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (Vaucluse Spring)

Very powerful spring at the foot of 230 m high cliff. Average discharge – 22,000 l/s, at snow melts – 110,000 l/s – thus it is one of the most powerful springs in the world. Dived up to 308 m depth. Source of Sorgue river.

Gunnuhver geothermal area

A geothermal field with mud pools and fumaroles, former geysers. A legend about a ghost that was dragged in the fumarole.

Ķintu Aka

One of the most unique megalithic monuments in Latvia – a well made of enormous stone slabs, some weighing more than 1 ton. Well has smooth inner surface, stones fit together well. Legends about other megalithic structures nearby that do not exist anymore.

Meayll Hill (Mull Hill) Stone Circle

Hill with a ring of standing stones – with six pairs of burial chambers aligned along the circle. Remains of Neolithic huts.

Dwarfie Stane

Unique monument – chambered tomb carved in a single block of sandstone. Possibly the only sample of Neolithic rock cut structures in Britain.

Kakamora Caves – mystery of the dwarf people

Legendary, inaccessible caves, where, according to locals, live Kakamora people – ancient dwarf people, just one meter tall, walking naked and endowed with incredible strength. Many believe that these people still exist.

Nusa Roviana hillfort and shrines

Impressive settlement complex – 600 m long hillfort with 3 m high, 2 m wide, and 500 m long wall made of stone rubble. Here are located 13 skull shrines filled with skulls of deceased chiefs. A small terraced area in the highest place of the island contains a legendary shrine – Tiola or dog shrine with a stone carving – dog’s head. The fortress was destroyed in 1892.

Yoro Fish Rain – Lluvia des Peces

Site of legends. Reportedly, for more than a century in May – July there is witnessed rain that leaves rather small but live fish on the ground. Local people just gather the fish – it is very tasty!

Markansu Desert – Valley of Tornadoes

Broad, flat, almost lifeless plateau between mountain ridges, located at the height of 4 km above the sea level. Location with an extremely harsh climate, constant strong winds, and storms. Very frequently can be observed dust devils and small tornadoes.

Paasselkä devils

Light phenomena occasionally appearing above Lake Paasselkä and areas near it, mentioned since the 18th century. Usually, it is a ball of light that sometimes behaves as if has its own will. Paasselkä lake has formed in a meteorite crater.
