Agadez Mosque

Large clay building, originally constructed in 1515 and restored in 1844. Mosque has a 27 m tall minaret – the tallest adobe structure in the world.

Msoura stone circle

Impressive stone circle with 167 standing stones up to 5 meters high. It is possible that this is a burial for one of the first Mauretanian kings from the 4th – 3rd century BC.

Nossa Senhora do Rosario church in Cidade Velha

World’s oldest colonial church, constructed in 1495 in Manueline (Portuguese Gothic) style.

Santiago de Compostela Cathedral

A pilgrimage church of huge importance. This Romanesque cathedral is adorned with later Gothic and Baroque additions – beautiful facades and towers. The main part was built in 1075-1128, the gorgeous western facade in 1738-1750.

Lake Tele

Round freshwater lake deep in swampland and rainforest, possible impact crater. According to local stories in this lake and surrounding area lives mokèlé-mbèmbé – purported giant reptile. This remote area is very rich with rare species of plants and animals including a population of more than 120 thousand gorillas. Many other cryptids were reported, such as mahamba – giant crocodile.

Massawa Old City

Amazing monument of Ottoman architecture, mainly built in the 18th – 19th century on two islands. An especially impressive feature is the waterfront of the city. Includes the fifteenth-century Sheikh Hanafi Mosque, Imperial Palace, and other historical buildings.

Kubu Island (Ga’nnyo)

Approximately 1 km long and up to 20 meters high granitic island in the middle of vast Makgadikgadi Plains – giant salt flats. Area of eerie, unusual beauty, adorned with a group of giant baobabs. Remnants of prehistoric structures – an enormous stone wall and hundreds of circular stone cairns.

Island of Mozambique

Urbanized island with numerous historical buildings. Arab trade port was established here in medieval times. The island (and later the whole country) was named after Musa Mbiki – an Arab trader. Contains the oldest European fort in Sub-Saharan Africa – Fort São Sebastião, built in the 2nd half of the 16th century, a rare example of Late Gothic (Manueline) architecture in Africa.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Abu Dhabi

The eighth-largest mosque in the world, constructed in 2007 as one of the most beautiful religious structures in the modern world. The building has 82 domes rising up to 85 m high. Tallest minaret is 107 m high. White color dominates the design, very impressive is the floral design of the marble courtyard.

Paro Taktsang Monastery

This monastery is in a dramatic setting on the side of a cliff, 700 meters above the bottom of the valley. It was built in 1692. Near the monastery is a 60 m high waterfall – Taktsang waterfall.
