Root bridges are not built but grown of the roots of Ficus elastica trees. Such a living bridge over time gets additional supports from secondary roots.

Especially interesting is the so-called Umshiang Double-Decker Root Bridge near Cherrapunji – here in the deep valley there are grown two bridges one above the other.
