Golden Gate Bridge
Iconic bridge, one of the most popular bridges in the world. This 2,737 m long suspension bridge was constructed in 1933 – 1937. Pylons are 227 m high, the span under the bridge is 67 m.
Miles Glacier Bridge (Million Dollar Bridge)
470 m long railway bridge, built in 1910. This expensive bridge currently stands almost without use, but it is cheaper to maintain it than to remove it.
Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge
Enormous cable-stayed bridge with two towers, each 175 m high, holding a deck with eight traffic lanes and pedestrian way. Total length – 4 km. Constructed in 2005 and designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and earthquakes.
Bandra – Worli Sea Link
Large cable-stayed bridge across a bay of Arabian Sea, part of the ambitious Western Freeway system. 5.6 km long, with 128 m tall pylons.
Howrah Bridge
Impressive cantilever bridge across Hooghly River, built in 1943. The longest span – 457,5 m. Most likely, this is the busiest cantilever bridge in the world with more than 150 thousand pedestrians and some 100 thousand cars crossing it daily.
Double decker root bridge near Cherrapunji
Root bridges are not built but grown of the roots of Ficus elastica trees. Such a living bridge over time gets additional supports from secondary roots.
Especially interesting is so-called Umshiang Double-Decker Root Bridge near Cherrapunji – here in the deep valley there are grown two bridges one above the other.
Sydney Harbour Bridge

Sonjuk Bridge
This historical bridge was constructed in 1290. A national monument since 1780, closed to traffic. In 1392 on this bridge was killed the famous scholar and diplomat Jeong Mong-ju, marking the end of Goryeo dynasty. Brown spot on the bridge, reportedly, marks the place of assassination and some tell that it becomes red during the rain.
Possible Maya bridge at Yaxchilan
Structures at the banks of Usumacinta River and in the middle of it hint at the existence of the longest bridge of the ancient world. The bridge was approximately 200 m long and had two pylons in the river.
Dragon Bridge in Da Nang
Landmark bridge, constructed in 2012. The bridge is adorned with a giant sculpture of dragon that every evening at 9 PM spews fire.
