The list of natural landmarks around Sigulda Town is almost endless and includes more than 20 smaller (but picturesque!) waterfalls.

Most of these waterfalls have formed on a locally prominent layer of cemented sandstone that belongs to the Amata Formation of the Upper Devonian Frasnian stage. The best-known among them could be the gorgeous Dauda Waterfall.

Just 1.2 km north of Dauda Waterfall are the next falls that are somewhat higher: Jodupīte Waterfalls.

Similar to other waterfalls around Sigulda, Jodupīte Waterfalls are located in a pristine ravine. The upper step (The Small Jodupīte Waterfall) is approximately 1.2 m high and, after some 20-25 meters comes the next – The Big Jodupīte Waterfall. This waterfall is some 2.5-2.6 m high and can be up to 2.2 m wide.

These waterfalls flow for the most of the year and in winter they form beautiful ice formations.

Please, refrain from a visit to these waterfalls! Waterfalls are located on the border of private property and a strictly protected area – Nurmizi Ravines Natural Reserve, a core part of Gauja National Park. Also, it is not easy at all to reach these falls, this is a true wilderness area.
