WorldYellow In detail

Saules Waterfall is located in a comparatively flat area and is a kind of surprise find among the lush forests and rolling fields of this beautiful part of Kurzeme. The sounds of the falling water are heard some distance from it and, when a visitor enters the shallow ravine – indeed: there is a beautiful waterfall!

This fall has formed on the small Saules brook, that, most likely, is fed by springs. As a result, the water in the stream is lucid and it deposits lime: the waterfall is covered with a thin layer of tufa.

Water falls over the Devonian dolostone of Plavinas Stage. Waterfall has two main steps. The upper step is much smaller, some 0.3 m high and 3.8 m wide. Next step comes after few meters and is 1.5 m high and up to 4.2 m wide.

In the waterfall stands a concrete box for the water pump for the nearby farmstead.
